New Mexico Works Career
Centers
San Juan College Career Centers were
established in 1998 by a Human Services
grant. SJC Career
Centers are the service provider for the
New Mexico
Works program to assist welfare recipients
in acquiring the necessary skills to get
a job, keep a job, and advance in a job.
It
is the mission of the Centers to help
individuals receiving TANF and
Food Stamp Assistance to meet the challenge
of moving from welfare into meaningful
employment.
The
Career Centers are under the direction
of San Juan College, which is contracted
by the State of New Mexico Human Services
Department, to provide
services to the Welfare Reform Program.

Placed approximately 1,508 participants in volunteer
activites at non-profit agencies

Placed over 333 participants in on-site G.E.D. classes

266 participants have graduated from Success Skills since 1998 |

From February 1998 through December 2002, over 1,865 participants
found full-time or part-time employment

9 participants received cars through the Wheels to Work program |
