Course Description

This course occurs fully online. You will need to spend time each week reading the chapters, completing the chapter quizzes and dialoguing with other students in the discussion area. Online courses are not easier than face-to-face classes.  Online courses, such as this one, do require more dedication and good time management skills that do traditional face to face courses.  Plan on spending 6 or more hours a week on the readings, quizzes, discussions, writing assignments, and exams.  The Course Guidelines within the course will have more specifics on requirements in the course.

Are you committed and ready for an online course?

Not everyone is suited to take an online course. If you are not sure if this is right for you, please take the “Online Readiness Checklist” under “Getting Started with Online Learning” (http://www.sanjuancollege.edu/pages/1302.asp).

I make every effort to communicate all semester long with each student in the course, but much of the responsibility for learning lies in the hands of each student.  Online courses are not easy.  At a minimum, you should set aside 6-8 hours each week for work on this course.

After enrolling in this course and completing the online orientation:

On the first day of school, you will be able to log into the course.  Go to the Class Discussion tool.  I will have posted an introduction of myself for everyone to read.  Please post an introduction of yourself so that we can read and get to know each other.  Online classes are tend to be more pleasant when we all know each other.

Then open the Syllabus and carefully read this document.  You will be responsible for everything on the Syllabus, the Fact Sheet and the Timeline.  The Fact Sheet and the Timeline are the last two parts of the Syllabus.  The Timeline contains everything we will be doing each week in this 16 week course.
