The following print indexes are good places to look for citations to articles about psychology topics. 

  • Education Index: Covers education periodicals from 1989 to the present.  Earlier editions, back to 1971, are available upon request. 
  • Social Sciences Index: Indexes periodicals from various fields, including psychology.

Electronic Indexes and Full-text Databases

Each of the following electronic databases contain information about psychology topics. 

First Search

MEDLINE
Provides access to vast body of medical literature, including material on psychology and psychiatry, dating back to 1966. A service of the National Library of Medicine. A web-based version, with a different interface, is available at PubMed (http://www4.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/)

The index uses Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). You can search for MeSH terms to use in a search in the MeSH Browser (http://www4.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/).

Some sample subject headings:

  • United States Indian Health Service

Health Info
Provides full-text documents drawn from medical and consumer periodicals, health newsletters, reference books, referral information, topical overviews, and pamphlets.

Some sample subject headings:

  • Navajos -- Health aspects 
  • Navajos -- Diseases 
  • Medical anthropology

Proquest Psychology Module

Provides access to both citations and fulltext articles, dating back to 1971. There is no subject heading for "Navajo," but you can do a keyword search to find material. 

Note   To set up a ProQuest search in a specific module, follow these steps:

  1. Click on "Collections" at the top of the ProQuest screen.
  2. Click on the "+" sign in the box next to "ProQuest General Reference"
  3. Click on the box next to the module you wish to select.
