At the March 4 San Juan College Board of Trustees meeting, board officers were selected to serve the next two-year term.

Valerie Uselman, representing District 7, was elected as the board Chairperson. Uselman is a lifelong resident of Farmington, NM, and a 1972 graduate of Farmington High School. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and English and a minor in Linguistics, with a concentration in Navajo. Uselman taught English at Farmington High School from 1985 to 1989. She earned her real estate license in 2004 and works at Keller Williams Realty. She has served on the SJC Board of Trustees since January 2020.

R. Shane Chance, who represents District 6, was elected as Vice Chairperson. Chance has served on the SJC Board of Trustees since 2004. Chance obtained his associate’s degree from San Juan College in 1991, and in 1993 earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from New Mexico State University (NMSU). In 1996, Chance became a Certified Public Accountant and opened his accounting firm in Aztec in 1997.

District 2 representative Evelynn Benny will serve as Secretary of the Board. Benny has served on the SJC Board of Trustees since 1993. She attended San Juan College and New Mexico State University (NMSU).

Completing the representation of the SJC board as members are Joe Rasor, representing District 4; Byron Manning, representing District 3; GloJean B. Todacheene, representing District 1; and Bev Taylor, representing District 5.
