Kim Carpenter Earns Best Play-by-Play Award
Veteran broadcaster Kim Carpenter received the New Mexico Broadcasters Association (NMBA) Best Play-by-Play Award for his exceptional coverage of the 2025 Connie Mack World Series.
Carpenter, who now lives in Chandler, Arizona, serves as a baseball coach at Grand Canyon University during the year. Each summer, however, he returns to Farmington to step behind the microphone for KSJE and help bring the excitement of the tournament to baseball fans.
"Winning this award is an honor," Carpenter said. "I am representing KSJE and San Juan College. I am happy for Scott Michlin and his team. They have done a remarkable job with the station."
His energetic and knowledgeable play-by-play broadcasting has become a familiar part of the Connie Mack experience, helping listeners follow every inning whether they are in the stands, at home or tuning in from across the country.
Travis Johnson Recognized for Best Sports Interview
KSJE's second NMBA honor went to Travis Johnson, who earned the Best Sports Interview Award for capturing the personal stories that make the Connie Mack World Series more than just a baseball tournament.
Johnson's interviews give listeners an inside look at the athletes, coaches and families whose experiences shape the event each summer. By focusing on the people behind the game, he creates meaningful connections between the tournament and the community.
"Growing up attending the Connie Mack World Series, I never imagined that one day I'd have the opportunity to help tell its story," Johnson said. "Meeting the coaches, the players, their families and hearing their stories creates connections that go far beyond baseball. Being able to bring those stories to listeners and help them feel like they're part of the experience is what makes broadcasting the Connie Mack World Series so meaningful to me."
His storytelling reflects KSJE's commitment to providing coverage that goes beyond scores and statistics by highlighting the human side of the game.

KSJE General Manager Scott Michlin credits the entire broadcast team for producing award-winning coverage year after year.
According to Michlin, selecting entries for the New Mexico Broadcasters Association awards is often one of the most difficult parts of the process because every tournament produces hours of exceptional broadcasting.
"We cover so many action-packed games, it's hard to choose," Michlin said. "We ask the announcers to select some of their best work so we can narrow down the entries."
While the recognition is gratifying, Michlin emphasized that awards are never the station's primary goal.
"Our main mission is to cover the games of the Connie Mack World Series for our audiences, both near and far," he said. "The fact that some of our work was selected to be honored with these awards is just icing on the cake."
