Definitions

Degree Seeking Continuing SJC Student:

If you were enrolled in at least one SJC credit course the previous semester, you maintain this status even if you withdrew from college before the end of the semester. DO NOT reapply for Admission.

Non-Degree Seeking Continuing SJC Student:

If you were enrolled in at least one SJC credit course the previous semester, you maintain this status even if you withdrew from college before the end of the semester. DO NOT reapply for Admission. Note: if you are a non-degree seeking student you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

New or First Time Degree Seeking Student:

A first time college student is a student who has never attended any college before. (As a high school student, if you took dual credit or concurrent enrollment courses, you are considered a first time student).

New or First Time Non-Degree Seeking Student:

A first time college student is a student who has never attended any college before. (As a high school student, if you took dual credit or concurrent enrollment courses, you are considered a first time student). Note: if you are a non-degree seeking student you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

High School Student:

If you are currently in 11th or 12th grade and will be enrolled at least half time at your high school while taking SJC courses, you are classified as a high school student.

International Student:

1. Students who are non-U.S. citizens who wish to attend SJC in face to face classes who have been admitted to the college on an F-1 visa. These students are limited to Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs and may not apply for Associate of Applied Science degree programs. F-1 international students pay non-resident tuition in addition to a $200.00 per credit hour international student fee.
2. Students who are non-U.S. citizens who wish to complete a program of study completely online. These students take online classes from their country of origin (or from a country other than the United States) and pay non-resident tuition. These students are not required to have a visa, as it is assumed they are not residing in the United States.
3. Non-degree seeking International students. These are students who are not seeking a degree, but wish to take college credit classes. These students are not required to have an F-1 visa and may take classes based on non-degree seeking student policy (see current catalog for non-degree seeking policy). These students pay non-resident tuition.
4. Undocumented students (NM Senate Bill 582). These students are not required to have a F-1 visa and may apply as a degree seeking student in any program. These students pay resident tuition.

Returning SJC Student:

If you have previously attended SJC, but have not attended for one or more semesters, you are a returning student.

Transfer Student:

If you have graduated from high school and/or received your GED and have attended another college or university you are considered a transfer student.

Online Student:

If you are a student that is taking all courses online you are considered an online student.
