PROFILE STATEMENT:

Tell the reader a little about yourself.  If you have the job ad or job description use the words they are looking for if it matches your attributes.  In a sentence or two list the skills you have to fulfill that job.  Focus on the employer’s needs, not your wants.

EDUCATION:  (List most recent education first – If you education was years ago you might list it after Work Experience instead of before.)

¨       List any college or training above high school first. If you don’t have college then list your high school.

¨       If you have a high gpa list it here, anything below a 3.0 don’t list.

¨       You may put down that you are planning to go to College if that is one of your goals and what you plan on studying.

¨       Under the school you attended you can list a couple of classes that might help you in the job you are looking to obtain or mention a project on which you received a high grade.

QUALIFICATION/SKILLS

¨       Bullet point several skills that the company needs and that you have.   For example:

o   Communication

o   Customer Service

o   People Skills

¨       Under each skill give several examples from your work, school, volunteer work and outside activities that support that claim

¨       Results of tasks are important, as well as quantity (how much you increased sales, how many children you supervised, how you saved the company time or money)

¨       Stay away from I or My statements.  You do not need complete sentences such as you will use in your cover letter, phrases that describe your skills are fine here

WORK EXPERIENCE: (list your most recent work experience first)

Title of Position, Dates of employment, Name of Employer, City, State

·         You do not need to describe each position as you are giving that information in the Qualification/Skills section.

RECOGNITION AND ACTIVITIES

List clubs, volunteer experience, scholarships, awards or activities that might be related to the job

REFERENCES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST (Optional)

Use this section as a heading only.  Do not include references on your resume – bring a sheet to the interview that lists your references.  Make sure they are not friends and relatives, but people who can vouch for your dependability and good work ethics. Two or three is fine.  The exception to this rule is when they ask for references ahead of time. Then, give them here.

It is okay to have a two page resume but, you don’t want to be wordy just to fill up space.
