1.) Are patrons required
to have a NetLibrary account to view books from home?
Yes. They must sign up for
this free account on an SJC campus computer, but after that they can
go into NetLibrary ebooks from home. NetLibrary will prompt them for
their NetLibrary login and password.
2.) Do they need
to "check out" an ebook in order to have access to it for
more than 15 minutes?
No, "View This Book"
serves as a way to look at the book for a long period of time.
3.) When one of
our library patrons selects "View This Book" how long are
they allowed to view it?
The view functionality allows
a user to access a copy of a title on a rolling 15 minute basis. If
the user continues to be active in reading the title (e.g. turning pages,
conducting full-text searches, taking notes, navigating the Table of
Contents) they will continue to have access. Once the user becomes inactive,
either by not performing any of the functions listed or by ending their
session, the copy will become available for another user to access.
4.) If they select
"View This Book" and forget to close it out, how long before
it times out so another user can access it?
After 15 minutes of inactivity,
the eBook automatically closes out and is put back on the shelf for
another patron to use.
