Doing Research on Literature

A good place to start is by finding a little more about your author.  It will also be important to find actual criticism, and we are here to help with that.  So good luck, and let us know what we can do to help!

"Philosophy" is a word that derives from the ancient Greek philo sophia - meaning love of wisdom.

This Research Guide contains resources to assist in the study of Philosophy, including such specialized areas as Being, Ethics, Logic & Reasoning, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Aesthetics and others.

Music courses taught at San Juan College are vocal, instrumental or theatre. Classes range from Introduction to Music to playing in an ensemle. When researching for a paper or general information please consider these resources.

The study of the human mind and behavior

This guide includes information and resources that relate to the many branches of psychological research and study, including cognition, development, personality and others.

Searching for good consumer health information is difficult because there are many people who want to make money giving out health and medical advice, but not all of them are qualified to do so.  Bad medical advice can have severe, even lethal, consequences.  Make sure you know where the information is coming from and what qualifications the author(s) have. 

For web resources, materials coming from government agencies (usually sites with a .gov for a domain) have typically been well researched (make sure they are coming from a legitimate source within the agency, however).  For non-government resources, it is a good idea to check and see if the Health on the Net Foundation has evaluated the web page.  Look the the HON Code symbol.

San Juan College has a wide variety of resources about the Navajo people and culture. These resources cover many fields of study (such as history, politics, and economics).  They can be useful for general research on the Navajo Nation and for factual or ready reference questions.  The following guide is organized by type of resource (books, journal articles, newspapers, etc.) and by subject (such as education, economics, etc.). These are meant to provide initial help in finding and selecting resources.

The San Juan College Library is organized according to the Library of Congress Classification.  In general, business information can be found in the HD-HJ section of the library.  Materials on economics can be found in the HB-HC section of the library.  Resources can be found in both the reference and circulating collections.
