The Possible Dream Program
Each year parents of eighth graders in San Juan County receive invitation letters from San Juan College encouraging them to enroll their child in the college's Possible Dream Scholarship program. The Possible Dream program offers parents a simple method of prepaying their student's tuition prior to their graduation from high school.
Beginning in January, parents may enroll their eighth grader in the program, and pay $46 per month for the next 50 months while the student is in middle school and high school, plus a $10 enrollment fee. This money will cover three semesters of full-time tuition, and the San Juan College Foundation will award a general scholarship for $444 for the fourth semester. Any excess funds can be applied toward charges at the College’s bookstore.
The money parents contribute is refundable (minus a $50 service charge) if the student decides to attend another college upon high school graduation. There are no academic requirements to enroll in the program, but students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA in order to access the general scholarship the final semester. Parents have until March 1 during their student's eighth grade year to enroll them in the program.
Almost 900 area high school students are currently enrolled in the Possible Dream program.
