Pre-Medical Sciences (AS.PMED) 64-75 credit hours
Is a Medical Career right for you?
A career in medicine is rewarding…and challenging! It requires a serious educational commitment, and depending on the area or specialty you want to pursue it can take 11 to 16 years to complete – four years of undergraduate school, four years of medical school, and three to eight years of residency training.
But if you are passionate about helping people, interested in science and medicine, and look forward to continually learning about the latest medical advancements then this career is the right one for you.
Where do I start?
The first step is to complete your pre-med coursework, and San Juan College is a great place to start. With our small class sizes, you'll receive the individualized attention you need to successfully complete the tough science courses that are a necessary part of this degree.
The San Juan College Pre-Medical Associate of Science Degree (A.S.) program is specifically designed for students intending to pursue:
- Medical Doctor (MD)
- Doctor of Osteopathic (DO)
- Doctor of Dental Science (DDS)
- Doctor of Pharmacy or Pharmacist (Pharm. D.)
- Doctor of Chiropractic (DC).
Our program curriculum prepares you for transfer to a four-year institution and includes coursework that focuses on those classes required to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) – the standardized test required by most medical colleges for admission.
Plan your transfer early
Students interested in pursuing a medical career should contact their intended transfer schools at the very beginning of their coursework at San Juan College to see that they meet the program prerequisites and to assure maximum transfer of course credits.
Be sure to work with Advising & Counseling or the Transfer Center to create a transfer plan.
