Associates Degree chemists work as chemical technicians in industrial, environmental, and research laboratories nation wide. Technicians would perform analysis, operate equipment, maintain equipment, and generate reports for clients. Salaries range from $20,000 to $30,000 per year.

Bachelor Degree chemists work as bench chemists in industrial, environmental, and research laboratories nation wide. Bench chemists perform and design analysis methods, run equipment, generate reports, and make purchasing and other managerial business decisions for their companies. Bachelor Chemistry majors can also find teaching positions at primary and secondary schools. Salaries range from $30,000 to $50,000 per year.

Advanced Degree chemists (Masters, M.A., Doctorate, Ph.D.) work in academia or industry. They would either teach at the college level, or run research and development laboratories or both. In addition to management duties, advanced degree chemists study the physical nature of our world, and develop new chemical processes used to make drugs, materials, and devices. Salaries range from $40,000 to $80,000 per year.
