Henderson Fine Art Gallery Exhibit Schedule Fall 2009

"Structure + Style" featuring the artwork of Lisa Pedolsky and Marie McCallum.

Opening Reception: Friday August 21st, from 6 to 8 pm; the exhibit will run through September 18th, 2009.

Lisa Pedolsky uses her own patterns to create her sculptural terra cotta ceramic art pieces. She layers decoration which creates depth and color on the surface of her artwork. Her pieces all have a strong presence but are intimate and command attention. She is influenced by childhood toys, calligraphic texts, architecture and textiles. The thread that unites this seemingly disparate collection is function.

Marie McCallum has a unique and beautiful way of looking at a window. Marie explains her work in this way: "As I began to closely look at shop windows I also became acutely aware of their reflections of the outside world. Throughout history we humans have been obsessed with personal adornment. Clothing plays a central role in how people define themselves. As modern super consumers we are caught up in acquiring the latest fashion and often lose sight of the things that are real in our lives. We are often preoccupied by the image we want to project from our clothing."

Dale Latta and Liz Stannard "ARTWORK"

Opening Reception: Friday September 25th, 2009 - exhibit will run through Friday October 23rd, 2009.

Dale Latta works with oils to create colorful movement that evokes strong emotions while viewing his abstract impressionistic paintings.

Liz Stannard’s artwork is typically done in a large format and combines a grid pattern with realism. This prompts the viewer to pay attention to the immediate and then to explore the background images and color.

These artists have a strong friendship which has enhanced their artwork and brought them together for this exhibit.

"Fine Arts Committee Invitational Exhibit" featuring the artwork of James Joe

Opening Reception: Friday October 30th, from 6 to 8pm; the exhibit will run through Wednesday, November 25th, 2009.

James Joe’s methods for creating his artwork are never typical but always bold and innovative. James was chosen by the Fine Arts Committee of San Juan College to be this year’s featured artist.
