In addition to lectures and labs, students will have the opportunity to further explore Earth by researching geology in the news and examining recent advances in the scientific literature.

BIOL 299/GEOL 299 Natural History of Southwestern National Parks
This course will be an introduction to the geology, botany and zoology of southwestern parks. The majority of the course will take place during spring break, when we will travel to the Grand Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Professors Burris, Heil and Vanderbilt will bring their varied expertise to this course. The field work will be physically rigorous, as it will involve several long hikes as well as some camping. There will be required informational meetings on March 1 and 15, then the journey will begin March 25. We will return on April 1.
