AmeriCorps At San Juan College
San Juan Service Corps
Application period ends July 31st
AmeriCorps, the Domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 40,000
Americans in intensive, results-driven service each year through
more than 500 programs. Most AmeriCorps members are selected
by and serve with local and national organizations like Habitat
for Humanity, the American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters,
and Boys and Girls Clubs. After
their term of service, AmeriCorps members receive education
awards to help finance college or pay back student loans.
Locally, San Juan Service Corps Members work with the San
Juan County Partnership, San Juan College Project Read, and
Sacred Heart School. San Juan County Partnership conducts
in-school and after-school programs with children, focusing
on substance abuse prevention, by engaging young people in
fun learning activities. Project Read tutors adult learners
in improving their literacy skills or learning to read and
speak English. Sacred Heart School provides tutors and computer
lab assistance to children in K-7 classes. AmeriCorps Members
also volunteer for several community service projects a year
and receive life skills and career training.
AmeriCorps at San Juan College also offers
education awards or service scholarships
for students engaged in community service.
