The Technician Survey position is responsible for gathering the required survey information and creating reports to support the mine's operations. This position is responsible for ensuring that each task is performed according to established safety, environmental and survey principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Demonstrate and support the BHP Billiton Charter, the Code of Business Conduct and the Group Level Documents.
•Promote and support the overall health, safety and work environment by implementing and assisting in the enforcement of the requirements of the New Mexico Coal Health and Safety Programs.
•Import field data into the mine's computer aided drafting (CAD) software package, perform accuracy checks, and file data.
•Complete volumetric calculation and monthly reporting of quantities to internal customers and regulatory agencies.
•Perform survey duties for construction projects in the form of staking, grade control, and scanning for volumetric calculations.
•Utilize survey equipment and engineering software to perform assigned tasks (to include GPS survey equipment, Laser, Scanner, Total Station, AutoCAD, and Vulcan).
•Complete and maintain legal survey support and documentation for right-of-ways, leases, boundaries and regulatory surveys.
•Perform survey duties to locate the coal seam structures and topographies.
•Perform other assignments as directed to meet business needs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
•Associates Degree in a related field and a minimum of one to two years related experience required; certificate in drafting, AutoCAD, GIS and experience in a surface mining environment highly desirable.
• Must be able to apply technical information from a variety of sources and demonstrate a proficiency in advanced mathematical skills, analysis, and methods to facilitate the decision making process.
•Demonstrable knowledge of computer applications related to CAD and MS Office Suite necessary; proficiency in operating Trimble survey equipment desirable.
•Ability to work overtime and weekends on short notice as well as the ability to physically traverse uneven ground with survey equipment in varying environments, (temperature, dust and adverse weather conditions), is mandatory.
•Must be able to work with minimal direction, prioritize and deliver on customer requirements, and engage internal and external customers effectively.
•Must be aware of the hazards and risks involved in the mining environment and demonstrate a pattern of conduct consistent with the acceptance of responsibility for encouraging a safe work environment.
•Consistent history of satisfactory performance, including attendance, is mandatory.
