Learning Support Classes
The mission of the Learning Support Program is to provide students with a quality education that emphasizes the basic academic and study skills needed to succeed in college.
Student-oriented program goals
- to assist students in becoming competent successful college students
- to provide educational and social environments that promote and facilitate student learning
- to offer numerous Learning Support classes that teach study skills and basic academic skills
- to provide study skill workshops and academic support for vocational classes
College Success Strategies (LRNS 111)
Provides an in depth opportunity for students to learn and adopt methods that promote success in college and in life. Topics to be explored include critical thinking, communication skills, managing health, memory, diversity and relationships, test- taking strategies, fears about college, time management, notetaking, stress management, research techniques, basic computer skills, money management, basic reading strategies, and +campus policies and resources. This is a 3-credit course offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Academic Skills Class (LRNS 081)
Utilizes large and small group instruction that will provide opportunities for college students to improve basic academic skills and study skills that will help them to succeed in other college courses. Academic tutoring and computerized lab instruction will be offered in addition to group instruction. S/U grading. Course may be repeated with instructor approval and is not applicable towards any degree or certificate. Semesters offered: Fall, Spring
Math 095 and 096 Skills Courses (LRNS 095 & 096)
Provides academic support for Math 095 or Math 096. Utilizes large and small group instruction that will provide opportunities for college students to improve basic math skills and study skills that will help them to succeed in their Math 095 or Math 096 course. Academic tutoring and computerized lab instruction will be offered in addition to group instruction. S/U grading. These courses may be repeated with instructor approval and are not applicable towards any degree or certificate. Semesters offered: Fall, Spring, and Summer.
