Navajo Word Processor
The Computer Science program at San Juan College is excited to offer for sale the San Juan College Navajo Word Processor version 4.1. Several new features make the program easier to use. We added all the Navajo fonts to the top of the font list for easy access. We also placed the corresponding English fonts with them at the top of the list. A new, easier method for adding dictionary words to documents was created by adding a “copy” button to the dictionary screen. We changed the desktop icon to be specific for version 4.1. Other changes in version 4.1 mostly involve remedies for recently discovered problems in version 4.0. We have solved the problem of saving files and losing access to the dictionary. We also discovered that in version 4.0 the dictionary window shrinks when switching from English to Navajo and Navajo to English over and over. We have corrected the problem.

We have discovered that when printing is done on a Hewlett Packard printer an extra, blank page is printed. This situation does not occur with the other brands of printers we have tested.
The program was developed by computer science programming students at San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. It is a complete software package including a full-featured word processor, four Navajo fonts, an English to Navajo dictionary and a Navajo to English dictionary. There are about 1500 words in each dictionary including 300 medical terms. The word processor has features not found in popular word processors. These features include the ability to type numbers while using our Navajo fonts as well as including an English to Navajo dictionary and a Navajo to English dictionary. Our new word processor can use files created in the older versions of the program. The four included fonts are Times New Roman for Navajo, Lucida Sans for Navajo, Courier for Navajo, and Arial for Navajo. These fonts were developed by our students and have been processed and licensed to us by Agfa Monotype Corporation.

Since many of the changes in version 4.1 are remedies for problems in version 4.0 current individual owners of version 4.0 may upgrade to version 4.1 for $5.00 per copy. Institutional users may upgrade for $20.00. You will need to bring or send evidence (installation disk for version 4.0 or sales receipt) to the San Juan College Bookstore to get these reduced prices. The regular prices of the San Juan College Navajo Word Processor version 4.1 are: $20.00 per copy for individuals with single PCs and $50.00 for institutional users with numerous PCs (in computer labs for example). There is also 5% tax charged (all purchases except tax exempt organizations) and there is a shipping fee of $2.50 (if ordering for mail delivery).
