Technical Theatre

Technical Theatre A.A.S. Degree Program

Philosophy
San Juan College's Theatre Department promotes and encourages the artistic expression and Painting Cracked Dirt Flooracademic development of all its students. We expect all students in this program to demonstrate a high level of commitment to teamwork, ethics, theatrical values, discipline, and pride in their artistic accomplishments.

Opportunities
Complimenting the fine arts program at San Juan College, the Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Theatre teaches students "backstage" skills and prepares them for careers in technical theatre.

Students learn from qualified instructors who have worked as professional theatre designers and technicians. The intensive two-year program combines theory with hands-on application.

Special Courses
Because the modern theatre relies heavily on computer technology, computer-aided drafting and design course comprise one-fifth of the total course requirements.

Specialized courses in the program include stagecraft, lighting, sound, costuming, makeup, and stage management, in addition to courses in art and computer-aided design. By the end of four semesters, students are ready to put their skills to work in a six-credit hour internship with a local or regional theatre company.
