EMERGENCY PROCEDURES For
Hazardous Materials Spills or Releases
1. Do not attempt to handle a spill of acutely toxic, carcinogenic, reproductive hazard, corrosive, flammable, highly reactive, or water-sensitive chemicals (always consult the product’s Material Safety Data Sheet [MSDS] prior to the use of any chemical, which must provide this information).
2. EVACUATE the laboratory or other immediate area (but remain on the scene, at a safe distance, to receive and direct emergency response personnel when they arrive).
3. Call for assistance IMMEDIATELY!

NOTE: Always contact Safety & Security if you are unsure about the nature of the material, or what to do.
Do not expose yourself to the hazard; leave it to specially-qualified personnel.
4. In the event of a suspected overexposure to a hazardous material:
a. Seek medical attention.
b. Make a written report of the incident to you supervisor.
c. Supervisors shall notify the Personnel Dept. and the College Environmental Health Office.
