Childcare Grant Awarded to SJC
San Juan College has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education through the Childcare Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program. The College will receive $190,792 over four years.
The CCAMPIS Program, authorized by the Higher Education Act and administered by the U.S. Department of Education, supports the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education by providing campus-based child care services. Students need to be eligible for the PELL grant to access funds.
SJC-CCAMPIS grant funds will be used to provide access to campus-based child care services (Child and Family Development Center) for low-income students. One-third of slots available to SJC students will be reserved for CCAMPIS participants. Specifically, funds will be used for tuition support for families who miss the cut-off for the state child care subsidy but still have financial need. Funds will also be used for staff professional development and educational resources and materials.
A sliding fee scale will be implemented. The program will include outreach activities, eligibility determination, enrollment of CCAMPIS parents, support services (including developing individual student success plans) and tracking activities for continuous improvement and reporting purposes.
The program will begin immediately and will be administered through the Child and Family Development Center. For more information, contact Lyn Garrison, 505-566-3383.
