You’ll want to get tickets now for the poignant and powerful play Eurydice, presented by the San Juan College Theatre department and opening Friday, October 12 in The Little Theatre at San Juan College.

The show times are October 12, 13 ,19, 20 at 7 p.m. and October 21 at 2 p.m.

This modern adaptation explores the ancient Orpheus myth from the perspective of the young heroine Eurydice. The play begins with Eurydice and Orpheus, two young lovers who are about to get married. During their wedding, Eurydice goes out in the night air to get a drink of water when she meets a man who claims to have a letter from her dead father. Eurydice follows him to his apartment to retrieve the letter, but in a struggle to leave, she falls down the stairs to her death. The second half of the play takes place in the watery Underworld – the world of the dead. Eurydice meets her father there who attempts to reteach her about her past, since she no longer knows who she is. At the end of the play, Orpheus arrives to save Eurydice and she is faced with the decision of whether to go with him or remain with her father.

You Can’t Take it With You was originally scheduled for the Fall production, but due to difficulty casting the male roles, an adjustment needed to be made. Tickets for Eurydice are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. For more information call the SJC Box Office at 505-566-3430.
