Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy Adults and Teens

If you've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, but haven't found the time for lessons, you'll want to take a one-day class offered by the San Juan College Community Learning Center, Saturday, November 7, from 2:45 to 5:15 p.m. in room 9212.

Craig Coffman will teach Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy Adults and Teens, where students will learn the basics of playing chords on the guitar and begin having fun playing their favorite songs.

Coffman patterned the guitar class after the "Instant Piano" workshop that he has taught for more than 15 years.

"Many students just want to learn how to play simple tunes, and the principles taught in this class will allow them to do just that," Coffman says. "On the other hand, I am able to direct students who want to go further toward materials that will help them reach their guitar playing goals."

Coffman also discusses some of the common mistakes people make and the hurdles that prevent them from learning the guitar. "If I can help students avoid these hurdles, they are more likely to succeed," he adds.

No experience with music or playing the guitar is required to attend the class. It is designed for the beginner.

"If you have the desire and motivation to practice, you can learn to play the guitar," he continues. "The emphasis is on learning for your own enjoyment and having fun." Students are asked to bring an acoustic guitar. Cost to attend the class is $29, with an additional materials fee of $26.
