The San Juan College Silhouette Series opens 2013 by presenting H’sao on Saturday, January 26, at 7 p.m., in the Henderson Fine Arts Center Performance Hall at San Juan College.
The Montreal, Canada based afro-pop group has been performing internationally for more than10 years. Drawing from gospel and traditional African music (the group is originally from Chad), H’sao displays clear soul, pop and R&B influences. All of the group’s members are singer-songwriters, and the group’s style ranges from the masterful a cappella to traditional African rhythms.
H’Sao began its career as an all a cappella group made up of brothers and sisters. The group first sang together outside of a church before recording its first demo and purchasing instruments with the earnings. Now the group consists of five male members who have toured across the world in New Zealand, South Korea, Colombia and Australia.
The group has released two albums – H’Sao in 2003 and Vol 235 in 2009 – and has started recording its new album ORIA. It is expected to be released in February 2013.
Tickets for the show are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $12 for children 12 and under.
