Biography

As a part of the School of Extended Learning, the expansion of online learning initiative was established in Fall 2006. This initiative included the consolidation of a number of closely related positions to create a unified program. Online Services brings together staff  with instructional design, course management, student support, web project implementation, web management, technology training, and 3D animation and multimedia creation experience.

Mostly, the effectiveness of Online Services is evident by the long time commitment of all of the staff. While I started here in September 2006, my entire staff has been connected to San Juan College for nearly 30 (cumulative) years. This perspective helps us best understand where SJC has been and what is needed to prepare for the future.

Where I have been ...

I came to SJC from Truman State University (Kirksville, MO), where I served as their first Instructional Designer. While I enjoyed the opportunity of working at Missouri's Honor's University and creating Instructional Design Services, my desire to work in a culturally rich community college setting remained strong. I had worked at Bismarck State College (Bismarck, ND), Sitting Bull College (Ft. Yates, ND), United Tribes Technical College (Bismarck, ND), and for the North Dakota Association of Tribal Colleges (Bismarck, ND). SJC has the largest native american enrollment of any single community college in the US making for an exciting and refreshing experience.

Anyone who has spoken with me knows that I love to reminisce about the past and hypothesize about the future. Emerging technology, mobile learning, the needs of Generation X and millennial students, and time creation technologies consume nearly every thought. One such innovation is the use of microlectures at SJC. I am thankful for my past experiences and for the opportunity to work at such a progressive and forward thinking institution as San Juan College.
