Exchange 2003 Email Transition

In an effort to improve our email services on campus OTS has installed two new Exchange 2003 servers. One server will contain mailboxes and the other server will sit in front of the other server to log you in and direct you to Outlook Web Access.

The first thing that you will notice is that the login page for Outlook Web Access will look a little different than what you have been used to; however, the login process will still be the same and the URL of http://email.sanjuancollege.edu will remain the same. Once your mailbox has been moved to the Exchange 2003 server you will see the new Outlook Web Access that looks very similar to Outlook 2003. You should not notice any difference in the Outlook client on your computer and you will not need to make any changes.

Another change will be in the way that your spam email is handled. Spam filtering will be the same software as we had on the old server so you should not receive any more spam than you do now; however, spam will now be quarantined on the Exchange 2003 server rather than in your “Spam” folder. If you would like to view your spam you will simply go to http://sam.sanjuancollege.edu:41080 and put in your username and password. You will then see a Quarantine folder similar to the screen below. Here you can delete email that you do not need and you can also select any email and press the button “This is not Spam” to send the email on to your mailbox. You will get an email notification every 7 days if you receive any spam. Any spam remaining in the Quarantine folder will be deleted 10 days after its arrival.
