 Greetings,
I would like to welcome everyone to a new semester at San Juan College. Over the past year we in the Security and Safety Department have been working very hard to improve the service we provide to the campus. I am happy to say that I feel we have achieved much this past year and I would like to take the time to inform you on some of the many changes we have made.
Over the past twelve months we have been working to improve the Emergency Response of San Juan College and in light of recent events such as the horrible incident at Virginia Tech we have all learned the importance of staying diligent in this area. Our Emergency Management Committee is drafting a new Emergency Operations Plan (E.O.P.) that we feel will better prepare us if an unfortunate event were to occur at San Juan College. This year we were also fortunate to take part in the San Juan County Emergency Preparedness Drill.
This drill allowed us to test our response capabilities for college personnel and also strengthened relationships with outside agencies such as the Farmington Police and Fire Departments. These relationships are critical to our response plan and we are making the continued growth of these relationships one of our top priorities.
We have also began installation of new emergency telephones all over campus. These new phones are more visible and we hope will serve as another avenue of safety for all who come to our campus. The phones are located in different parts of the campus and we will shortly have a map showing these locations on our website.
The Security and Safety Department is also engaging in new training programs for the campus. As part of the Learning College mission our officers are providing presentations, trainings and working with local services and businesses to provide more education in Classroom Safety, Personal Safety, Crime Avoidance, Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) as well as many other topics.
As some of you may have noticed our website has changed quite a bit as well. We plan to have the website completed by the end of October and hope that the changes we have made will aid in the sharing of information with us and the rest of the campus community so please stop by often to acquaint yourself with the changes.
