Student Ambassador Program

The mission of the San Juan College Student Ambassador Program is to promote the philosophy, mission and goals of San Juan College by personal example and by serving as hosts and hostesses for San Juan College as requested by the board, foundation, administration, and various other organizations on campus and in the community.

AMBASSADOR REQUIREMENTS & DUTIES

School Requirements

  • Maintain 2.0 grade point average.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours.
  • Must be enrolled throughout the semester and may not fall below 6 credit hours.
  • Must attend Ambassador Training at beginning of Fall and Spring Semester.

Information Desk

  • Must maintain the information desk at least 2 hours per week.
  • Must conduct one-self professionally at all times.
  • If weekly desk hours cannot be maintained, it is your responsibility to reschedule with the Student Activities Staff.

Scheduled Events

  • Must complete approximately 6 short events (2-3 hours per event) per semester.
  • Must complete approximately 2 long events (4 hours or more per event) per semester. (These are approximate guidelines; the number of events could be more or less.)
  • If for whatever, reason you are not able to make your scheduled event, it is your responsibility to notify the Student Activities Staff and find another Ambassador to work the event for you.
  • Unless otherwise notified, the standard uniform for all events will be one of your Ambassador shirts and slacks or nice jeans for physical events like skate night. You should always wear your nametag when you are representing the college and Student Activities.
  • Please arrive 15-30 minutes prior to each event’s scheduled start.

Unscheduled Events

  • There will be times during the semester that we ask you to conduct a campus tour on short notice. Training will be given prior to giving a tour.
  • Please remember that unscheduled events come up on short notice and you will be called upon to help during these times.  We always appreciate your flexibility and willingness to help.

Councils, Committees, Meetings and Tours

  • Must attend weekly ambassador meetings unless otherwise arranged and approved by Sherri Cummins-Black.
  • Must attend Student Senate Meeting (once a month).
  • Council meetings will be determined at the beginning of the semester and your attendance will be required.  You will be the liaison for the council that you sit on and the student senate.  Therefore you will need to report to the Student Senate what business the council is working on.  If for whatever, reason you are unable to make your scheduled meeting, it is your responsibility to notify, Sherri Cummins-Black and find another ambassador to attend the meeting for you.
  • If you are unable to attend a council or committee  meetings due to your school and work schedule you will be expected to be a significant help with other duties.

Student Newspaper: the Buzz

  • May be asked to write articles for the Campus Buzz.

The successful completion of these requirements will qualify the student for a FULL IN-STATE TUITION REIMBURSEMENT (equivalent to the number of credits successfully completed) at the end of the semester.

Please note: Students who receive a tuition waiver from the Financial Aid Office, including the New Mexico State Lottery, JTPA, WIA, or a tuition waiver based on any other criteria, will not be eligible to receive an ambassador tuition waiver.
