Biography

Having been born and raised in New Mexico, I feel truly privileged to live and teach in what I feel is one of the most beautiful places on earth!
I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a BS in Physics in 1985. I then spent the next 10 years of my life underwater as a Nuclear Submarine Officer in the United States Navy. Throughout my time in the Navy I have been fortunate to have been stationed in places such as Idaho Falls, ID; Bremerton, WA; and Pearl Harbor, HI.
After having navigated over 30,000 miles under the water, including operations beneath the polar ice cap, and having earned my Naval Nuclear Engineering degree, I went on to teach Advanced Naval Submarine Tactics at Submarine Training Facility Point Loma San Diego. It was during my time at Submarine Training Facility that I developed my love for teaching. I had the opportunity to not only teach, but was actively involved in the development and implementation of a wide variety of new curriculum which included training for foreign submarine crews from Australia, Japan, Germany, and Britain.
After 10 years as a Naval Officer I exited the Navy with the rank of LCDR and headed for Dental School. My four years in Dental School was a very pleasurable time of my life. This further enhanced my love of academia, teaching and the pursuit of knowledge. I graduated from the University Of Colorado School Of Dentistry in 1998 and went off to work as a Dentist in private practice in Vermont where my wife had been born and raised.
Six years of practicing dentistry in a private practice was truly enriching and educational but I knew that teaching was where I wanted to return to. I began teaching at San Juan College in the Dental Program in January of 2004 and was also in charge of the Programs Clinical operations. I have subsequently taken over the position of the acting Director in August of 2007.
Outside of my time at work you will most likely find me with my family. We enjoy hiking and camping in the summer months and will be found on the ski slopes most any winter weekend. I also enjoy working with my hands and am currently deep into a project to restore a 1972 Toyota FJ40.
