Foundation STAR Scholars Program (Student Talent and Recognition)

San Juan College and the San Juan College Foundation is pleased to provide a scholarship program, called the Foundation STAR Scholars Program. STAR stands for Student Talent and Recognition, and is a way for San Juan College to reward and recognize academically talented students.

The Foundation STARS Program is an automatic, renewable, scholarship program for high achieving students who:

• complete the admission process by April 1, including submission of seven-semester transcript showing cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• enroll full-time at San Juan College in the first regular semester immediately following high school graduation
• enroll into the first regular semester (fall or spring) after graduation as a first time freshman,
• are eligible for degree admission (see the SJC Catalog), and
• meet GPA requirement below.

All criteria must be met in order to qualify.

STAR Scholarship Features & Benefits for the Student

• Automatic feature is simple and straight forward
• Rewards the “early applicant, academically talented” students
• Pays a significant portion of SJC tuition
• Renewable for up to four semesters
• Provides “bridge” scholarship to Lottery Scholarship
• Can be added to other scholarships, such as Lottery, Possible Dream or private awards
• Guaranteed transfer of SJC credits to other New Mexico colleges
• Significant cost savings, compared to other colleges—both in-state and out-of-state
• Eligible students will receive the higher award for which they qualify (only one award per student)

Requirements for Renewal

Renewal of STARS Gold

• Complete 12 credits each semester
• Maintain a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA
• Must enroll full-time for consecutive regular semesters (fall/spring)

Renewal of STARS Silver

• Complete 12 credits each semester
• Maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Must enroll full-time for consecutive regular semesters (fall/spring)

Other general information

• A scholarship application is not required for the program—eligible students accepted to San Juan College by April 1, will automatically be considered for STARS.
• The STAR scholarship can be used during fall and spring semesters (not summer)
• The STAR scholarship can be renewed for a maximum of four semesters.
