Biography

Mark has been an adjunct faculty member with San Juan College since 2005.  During that time he has instructed the Introduction to Rock Climbing course and the Winter Backcountry Travel course for the OLER program.  Additionally, Mark has co-instructed the Technical Rock Climbing and Destination Rock Climbing courses for San Juan College in 2008 and 2010, respectively.  A number of professional certifications augment Mark’s 20 years of outdoor experience.  In 2010 he earned the Single Pitch Instructor certification from the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), continuing his involvement with the AMGA which began with his 2006 Top Rope Site Manger certification.  Winter outdoor pursuits are an integral component to Mark’s adventure experiences, and his Level II Avalanche Awareness certification exhibits his commitment to safety in the winter environment.  Complimenting these specific outdoor professional certifications is Mark’s medical training- he has been a Wilderness First Responder since 2005.  Mr. Lawler is a lifelong resident of Durango, CO where he stays busy raising two terrific children and working as a field biologist.
