The position reports to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, and under general direction performs Journeyman level work maintaining the following systems: heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, storm water, sewer and gas distribution lines for all facilities operated by San Juan College. This position will inspect, repair, or replace a variety of mechanical equipment associated with (2) central plants to include air handlers, chillers, pumps, motors, automated electric and pneumatic control devices. This position will also inspect and maintain fire protection systems, and all lavatory, kitchen, and laboratory fixtures and plumbing. Position will exercise technical supervision over maintenance or temporary staff as necessary. The position is subject to being on call, working with hazardous materials, schedule changes based on the needs of the College to complete/perform routine or emergency functions or projects. The successful candidate’s journeyman’s license will serve as qualifying official for mechanical preventive maintenance for San Juan College facilities.
Qualifications:
High School Graduate, be a State of New Mexico license Mechanical Journeyman Plumber (JP or JPG) with at least 4 years of commercial and/or industrial experience. A qualified candidate for this position should have a broad background of mechanical experience to include knowledge of central plant operations, automated climate control scheduling, and preventive maintenance operations, and testing fire protection distribution systems. Successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience installing and maintaining general plumbing components to include drinking fountains, basins, toilets, urinals, sinks, hose bibs, water heaters and associated supply and drain lines. Candidate must be able to document operational and maintenance activities. Candidate must possess strong computer skills, and be willing to make heating and cooling temperature changes from home utilizing a college provided computer and the internet on a rotating schedule basis. The position requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to move up to 50 lbs. safely, a valid New Mexico Driver’s license, and the ability to be insured to operate college vehicles.
