Computer Science Associate of Science Program Description
The Computer Science A.S. degree is designed for students interested in software design and programming to transfer into a four-year computer science program. The rigorous nature of this degree fulfills the expectations at the baccalaureate level. This program is designed to prepare students for the nearly essential bachelor’s degree for employment in this field. This degree also begins prospective computing professors and/or research scientists on their path leading to graduate degrees.
This degree provides in-depth training in problem solving through computer science, programming, mathematics, and science course work. Our goal is to equip students with the theoretical knowledge base and practical computing skills required to successfully transfer into a 4-year degree granting institution.
The Computer Science A.S. degree curriculum gives students a solid foundation in the fundamentals of computer science. This includes problem analysis, program design, program testing, and applied instruction in scientific and applications programming languages. Students will develop good basic programming skills in both individual and team projects in several high-level programming languages. The program is designed to achieve a balance between technical skills and theoretical knowledge.
San Juan College provides students with outstanding computer facilities with state-of-the-art computer labs and equipment. Numerous computer labs with up-to-date PCs are located in the Information Technology building and in other buildings around campus.
