She has, on occasion, been known to speak her mind on matters academic.

Vicki Holmsten

I hesitate to call her the senior member of the English department, but she certainly is that in terms of years of service. More than that, Vicki is truly the heart of the English department. She mentored us all. Her students and her colleagues recognize her as a GIFTED teacher. She is now extending her talents through the Bisti Writing Project to teachers all over our region. In the words of one of her students, "She's the bomb."

She is a dedicated teacher who's particularly focused on our developmental students and their needs. Though like all English instructors, she teaches the full range of courses. It can be hard to catch Kris as she is almost constantly meeting with students in her office. Bill McGregorBill McGregor

Bill McGregor is in his 17th year as an adjunct. He has always taught fall, spring and summer sessions. He never missed one single class — until recently when he was out with the flu for one week. He has always been there to volunteer for whatever he was asked to do. Specifically, he has worked with our Building Trades students each year on special projects such as the playhouses and building ramps for disabled people in the community. Through the years, he has assisted us in projects that improve the organization of our shop and has even suggested many of those ideas beforehand. He dedicates whatever time is required to see the projects through regardless of the time requirements. Another project that he so graciously donated was building the solid oak trophy case for San Juan College. All of this has been done above and beyond his responsibilities as an instructor. He also tirelessly works with his own students, doing whatever it requires to see their projects through to completion.

Her students rate her as an excellent instructor. Comments include: "The class was very, very good. I had my mind opened to areas I need to work on to become a better person." "Jan is enthusiastic and really knows her stuff. She presents the material in a real-world, understandable way." She is also a very flexible colleague, always expressing a "whatever I can do to help" attitude.

During that time, Terry has been working as a full time firefighter with the Farmington Fire Department. He has been very instrumental in promoting the program and going the extra mile to train future and present firefighters in the Four Corners region. The Fire Science program is known for excellence in training. This would not have been possible without Terry's knowledge and teaching experience. Terry projects a can-do attitude by being involved with almost all training that occurs through the Fire Science program. Whenever representation dealing with fire science is needed, Terry is always available. He comes to the table with excellent ideas, and most of all enthusiasm. He provides excellent customer service and acts as an ambassador for the College by promoting the Fire Science program.

She is a valuable and experienced teacher for us, consistently presenting complex material in ways that students can understand. Her students come out of her class prepared for the next level. She is always in good spirits, hard working, and available for her students. We are very pleased to nominate her for this award.

Janet Parkes

Debby Sawyer

Choosing only one winner from all of our high quality adjunct math instructors was difficult, but Debby Sawyer is truly deserving. Debby has taught many different courses for us in the last few years, at all different times of day, and has always done an outstanding job. I believe that her most exceptional quality is the caring relationships that she is able to build with her students. Her students have said things such as "I have learned more from her than any other math teacher" and "I came into this class scared and afraid but she made it a very comfortable environment" and (this is my favorite) "What a wonderful woman. She makes me want to do better all the time".
