NOTE: CLAS standards issued by the Office of Minority Health were developed to improve access to health care, quality of care and health outcomes for LEP patients. They require that all health and social service organizations receiving federal funding respond effectively to the cultural and linguistic needs brought by limited English proficient (LEP) patients to the health encounter. (CLAS Standards 4, 5, 6, and 7 are current Federal mandates).
