Programs For Fall 2015
Connect U. Connect U is a full day orientation to San Juan College for new adjunct faculty. It will be held on Saturday, August 8. There is also an online version of Connect U available for those faculty who are outside the Four Corners.
Adjunct Jump Start. Jump Start has two open workshops between Connect U and the first day of classes. Adjunct faculty have access to computers, technical assistance, faculty mentors and a dedicated place and time to work on course preparation. August 13 from 2:00pm – 6:00pm and August 18 from 2:00pm – 6:00pm.
Adjunct Academy (for Adjunct Faculty teaching less than one year). Adjunct Academy is a program for new adjunct faculty which guides participants in developing their own teaching philosophies and creating a collegial environment. Application required. Meets every third Tuesday. Spring semester is a continuation on the yearlong program.
Learning Academy (for full time faculty in their first year at SJC). Learning Academy is a program for new SJC faculty which will guide participants in developing their own teaching philosophies and creating a collegial environment. There are two choices of day and time each month. Meets the first Wednesday or Friday of October and November from 4:00 – 6:00pm.
Learning Symposium. Join us for a Saturday morning of learning and networking. There will be three one hour breakout sessions each with four workshop choices. Registration required. Saturday, September 12. 8:00am – 12:30pm.
Reading Circle. This year’s selection is Engaging Imagination. Registration required and the book is provided. Every third Wednesday 4:00 – 5:00pm.
San Juan Scholars. A series of presentations by faculty on their research, publishing, and subject matter interests. Multiple dates and times throughout the semester.
Teaching Toolbox. Hands on workshops with topics that you can use in class the next day! Each session is offered two times, Monday at 2:30 and Thursday at 2:30. See the CTX Website for dates.
Tuesdays with TED. Brown bag lunches with a showing of TED Talk videos, followed by discussion time. Every other Tuesday 11:30 – 12:30 beginning on September 1.
Coffee and Conversation with Online Services. One hour session with the Online Services Manager to discuss teaching and learning in an online environment. Check CTX calendar for dates.
Talking Stick Dialogue. Seven - two hour sessions during the academic year. Through readings and discussions, participants will experience this unique dialogue method and benefit from practicing the listening for understanding approach. To strengthen our students’ writing, critical thinking, and success rates, we must learn to respect the cultural backgrounds of our local community. Registration required and all books are provided to participants.
