Biography

Born Long Beach, CA. Grew up in Sparta, NC. Have lived in CA, NC, MA, MN, AZ, NM. Hobbies bird watching and photography. I am also a botanist and an expert in ferns. I wrote the fern chapters for the soon-to-be-published Four Corners Flora. In 1996 I was National Teacher of the Year for the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.

I manage the Computer Science A.S. degree program at San Juan College as well as the Object Oriented Programming Certificate and the Web Programming Certificate. I have graduated numerous students and many of them went on to four year colleges or universities and earned their B.S. degrees. My other major contribution in Computer Science here is having my students produce the San Juan College Navajo Word Processor. This software is a typical word processor program but includes Navajo fonts allowing typing documents in Navajo. There is also a Navajo to English dictionary. In the past nine years about 40 students have produced four versions of the word processor, adding features and improving it each time.

I also teach a number of Honors courses as part of the San Juan College Honors Program.
