ANNOUNCEMENTS AND PROGRESS REPORTS
February 10, 2012 – Mr. Chad King, Board of Trustees
As you are aware, the presidential search committee, which is made up of 13 college faculty, staff and community members, has recommended six final candidates for the position of College President. The Board concurred with their recommendations during the Feb. 7 work session.
Below are the names of the finalists and an update regarding the search. The board and search committee have accomplished a great deal over the last couple of months.
- Executive search firm Harvard Group International (HGI) received approximately 60 qualified applicants
- HGI reviewed all materials and contacted top candidates for personal telephone interviews
- HGI presented to the Search Committee 13 semi-finalist candidates over two separate meetings
- The Search Committee last met on January 21 and reviewed the candidate materials presented by HGI
- The Search Committee voted by ballot, determined six finalists and submitted those to the Board for approval
- The candidates are:
- Dr. Lynn Cundiff, currently Executive Vice President at Mohave Committee College in Kingman, Arizona
- Dr. Kerry Hart, currently President of Morgan Community College at Fort Morgan, Colorado
- Dr. Carl Heilman currently President of Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas
- Dr. Sheryl Hruska, currently Vice President for Learning at San Juan College
- Dr. Toni Pendergrass currently Vice President for Learning at San Jacinto College in East Harris County, Texas
- Dr. Mark VanDenHende currently Vice President of Academic Affairs at Waycross College in Waycross, Georgia
Each candidate will be interviewed by the Board, then spend the day touring the campus and visiting with college groups. The candidates also will hold an open forum, where students, staff, faculty and the community are invited to attend. During the forum, candidates will provide opening remarks, and then allow ample time for a question and answer session. On-site interview schedules will be provided soon. More information on each of the candidates will also be provided with the interview schedules.

This is the second campus-wide email regarding the progress on the Board’s search for a new College President. We have accomplished much these last few weeks.
- The presidential position ads have been placed nationally, regionally, statewide, and locally
- The ads will stop running this week, but HGI (Harvard Group International) will continue to accept applications throughout the holiday break
- HGI has received over 200 applications of interest
- The Search Committee has met twice and has begun to review application materials for top candidates
- The Search Committee is planning on meeting again the first week of January to review the final batch of top candidates and will be determining the final 5 candidates for interviews and consideration
- We are planning on scheduling on-campus interviews the last week of January and the first of February
- The Board and the Search Committee will be interviewing the top five candidates. The campus community will be invited to meet the candidates as well.

November 15, 2011 – Mr. Shane Chance, Board of Trustees, Chairman
This is the first of several campus-wide emails regarding the progress on the Board’s search for a new College President. We have accomplished much these last few weeks.
- Dr. Norman Stewart, Executive Search Consultant from Harvard Group International, was on campus October 18-20 and met with several employee and community groups seeking opinions on characteristics for the position.
- A position profile has been developed and approved by the Search Committee and the Board.
- Position ads have been placed on several higher education job sites and in many regional papers.
- A web page specifically for the presidential search has been developed and added to the college web site at www.sanjuancollege.edu. Please look it over and if you have any comments or suggestions, please complete the comment page. It will be sent directly to Mr. Chad King, Search Committee Chair.
- Also on the web page, a timeline has been laid out and a list of the Search Committee is available.
