The Story in Our Eyes

John Cogan, famous for his life-like and dramatic landscapes, will display The Story in Our Eyes art exhibit in the Henderson Fine Arts Center Art Gallery from February 7 through February 28.


Cogan has been a professional painter for 30 years after earning a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in experimental physics from Rice University. Cogan captures the beauty of creation on canvas, focusing his paintings mostly on landscapes and wildlife of the American West in a unique style that has become known throughout New Mexico and the Southwest.


Cogan works in acrylic, focusing on color and the effects of light. His favorite subject has been The Grand Canyon and he has painted it hundreds of times in all seasons and weather over the last 30 years.



Paintings of Cogan’s are featured in the San Juan College Collection, Citizens Bank in Farmington, Conoco Phillips, McGraw Hill and Raymond James Financial. He also just finished a project in which he was commissioned to produce 25 landscapes for the Sultan of Oman.
