Renewable Energy - Photovoltaic & Solar Thermal Systems (AAS.RENG) 63 credit hours
Renewable Energy - Photovoltaic & Solar Thermal Systems (CER.RENG) 50 credit hours
SJC's Renewable Energy program is an ideal location to learn about clean energy resources. With an average daily insolation of 6.3 kWh/m2 (south facing surface tilted at latitude) Farmington, NM provides ample opportunities to experiment with solar energy.
You can be a
Pioneer in Renewable Energy!
The Renewable Energy Program gives the student a solid foundation in the fundamental design/installation techniques required to work with renewable energy technologies and in particular solar energy. The program has been offering solar training for over 13 years and is one of the oldest (and best!) degree programs in the country.
The concentration in Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Systems is offered as an A.A.S. Degree and or a Certificate. Both avenues include hands-on electrical training in our modern computer-based laboratory setting where the National Electrical Code (NEC) is emphasized throughout the curriculum. We also cover extensive design and analysis of solar systems to balance out your education. To understand the differences between the degree and the certificate see the Frequently Asked Questions section.
While the program has a strong focus on photovoltaics, we also cover all aspects of solar energy including passive and active systems including building energy analysis along with space and domestic water heating. Also emphasized in the program curriculum is energy usage and conservation.
