The Renewable Energy Program gives the student a solid foundation in the fundamental design/installation techniques required to work with renewable energy technologies. The concentration in Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Systems is offered as an A.A.S. Degree and or a One-Year Certificate. Both avenues include hands-on electrical training in our modern computer-based laboratory setting where the National Electrical Code (NEC) is emphasized throughout curriculum. To understand the differences between the degree and the certificate see the Frequently Asked Questions section in the Program Brochure.
While the program has a strong focus on photovoltaics, RENG 250 – Passive Solar Design and Analysis, covers understanding energy quantification, usage and conservation along with building energy analysis emphasizing passive solar design. Additionally, active solar thermal systems for space and domestic water heating are covered in RENG 260 – Solar Thermal Design and Application.
