In addition to the online Occupational Safety AAS Degree, the School of Energy offers SafelandUSA, Defensive Driving, First Aid and CPR, Forklift, and Hazardous Materials courses. These industrial safety courses address safety issues applicable to operations across the energy industry, including but not limited to the oil field, construction, and power plants.
Students can enroll in any or all programs according to their needs. Scheduling is flexible. Courses may be taken in consecutive days for one week, or over several weeks. Courses are typically offered at the School of Energy Main location.
Customized OSHA Training
In addition to all of our standard safety courses, below, we offer customized OSHA training, scheduled on demand, to fulfill individual and company training requirements.

All courses are 1-day, 8-hour classes unless otherwise noted.
San Juan College School of Energy is an authorized SafelandUSA Training Provider working under the endorsement of an Accrediting Organization. We deliver an accredited standardized orientation which sets minimum requirements for the US Onshore Exploration & Production Industry. SafeLandUSA Mission Statement: To monitor and continuously improve orientation standards for the US Land contractor community.

Major operators recognize and support the SafeLandUSA Orientation, with a primary goal of reducing the number of preventable accidents in our industry's journey to zero accidents.
Multiple Defensive Driving courses are offered: classroom, classroom with commentary drive, classroom with off-road driving component, and courses customized for specific customers. These courses are based on the standards as set forth in ANSI/ASSE Z15.1. Card upon completion.
First Aid and CPR
This course provides the information and hands-on training for certification through the Medic First Aid Program. Curriculum includes CPR, First Aid, BBP, and AED. Certificate upon completion.
Forklift Safety, Theory, and Practical Operation
This 3-year certification program complies with all relevant OSHA 1910.178 standards. Individuals will receive training and certification in: Sit-down Counterbalanced Forklifts, and Rough Terrain Forklifts. Upon successful completion of this training, each individual will receive a Certificate and pocket card from San Juan College School of Energy. Courses scheduled on demand.
Scissor Lifts and Aerial Lifts
This is a one-time training. This certification complies with all ANSI and SIA standards for Aerial and Boom Lifts. Upon successful completion each individual will receive a Certificate and pocket card from San Juan College School of Energy. Courses scheduled on demand.
Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response — 24- or 40-Hour Class
This 24- or 40-hour HAZWOPER program includes three or five days of hazardous waste operations instruction for employees who work with hazardous materials or respond to hazardous spills in the work location. The 24-hour program is specifically for hazardous waste operations. The 40-hour program includes the 8-hour BEST and the 8-hour First Aid and CPR curriculum. Both programs comply with OSHA requirements.
Certificate upon completion. 3 days: 24 hours total; 5 days: 40 hours total
Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response — 8-Hour Awareness Class
The 8-hour Awareness class provides information and training for the first-time employee who may handle or assist with hazardous materials. Upon successful completion of this training, each individual will receive an 8-Hour HAZWOPER Awareness Certificate from San Juan College. The program complies with OSHA requirements. Scheduled upon request for a minimum of 6 students. Certificate upon completion.
Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response — 8-Hour Refresher
This 8-Hour course is a refresher for people who have already completed the 8-Hour, 24-Hour, and/or 40-Hour courses. Upon successful completion of this training, each individual will receive an 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher Certificate from San Juan College. The program complies with OSHA requirements to maintain current status for individuals that have completed 8-hour, 24-hour and 40-hour programs. Certificate upon completion.
