    About SJC E-mail

    Your Microsoft hosted e-mail system uses Outlook Web Access (OWA). This email system is San Juan College’s official communication between students and SJC staff. Please check your email regularly.

    You can access your SJC Student e-mail through the MySJC Portal or by navigating to outlook.com/my.sanjuancollege.edu

  • Canvas General Information
    What is Canvas?

    Canvas is the Learning Management System used by San Juan College. SJC faculty use Canvas to place handouts, enter grades, assign homework, post discussions, and  communicate with students. Check with your faculty member to see how they plan to use Canvas.

  • Connecting to On-Campus WiFi

    Connecting to SJC Students Network

    All students have access to connect to the SJC Students Network with their SJC login information.

    1. On your device, view the available networks and select SJC Students.
    2. A login page will appear when you open your browser. (This works best with Internet Explorer)
    3. Login with your student credentials.
    4. The device is now connected to SJC Students.

    1. On your laptop, view the available networks and select SJC Guest.
    2. An acceptable use policy will appear when you open your browser. (This works best with Internet Explorer).
    3. Read and Accept the Acceptable Use Policy.
    4. The device is now connected to SJC Guest.

    Office 365 is Free (need Internet)

    1. Log into your SJC email: http://outlook.com/my.sanjuancollege.edu
      Enter your SJC username & password
    2. Click the gear icon gear icon (upper right corner)
    3. Click Office 365 (towards bottom)
    4. Click Install status
    5. Click Install desktop applications link
    6. Click Install button
  • How do I login?

    All SJC students receive computer access to SJC’s computer network. Your username and password are configured as follows:

    Username: First Initial | Middle Initial | Last Name | Last two digits of your Social Security #

    Password: The default password is “sjcp” then the last four digits of your SJC Student ID Number, unless you changed your password. Your password expires every 90 days.

    Example: John A. Smith with a SJC ID of 000123, and last 2 digits of SSN of 12 looks like:

    Username: jasmith12
    Password: sjcp0123

Account Information and Recovery

Using The Password Reset Tool

To get to the San Juan College Password Self Reset Tool:
  1. Navigate to the San Juan College Home Page (www.sanjuancollege.edu)
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click IT Help (Password  Reset)
  3. Choose Password Reset or Recovery
In order to fully utilize our password reset and recovery tool you must first set up your  security questions.

After you do this step you can then :

  • Recover Forgotten Passwords
  • Unlock Your Student Account
  • Change Your Password

  • Changing Student Account Password

    Changing Student Account Password

    Passwords expire every 90 days. If your password is about to expire, you wish to change your password to something other than your current password, or change it to something other than the default password (highly recommended) follow the steps below.

    *You Must Know Your Current Password*

    1. Click Change Password (Can Still Use Old Password)
    2. Enter your Username
    3. Enter your Old Password
    4. Enter your new password in the “New Password” field
    5. Enter you new password again in the “Confirm Answer “Field.
    6. Click I am not a Robot and answer the question
    7. Click Next
    8. Click Finish (Password is now Reset)

  • Password Reset – No Security Questions Set Up

    Recovering Account Without Security Questions

    If you need to recover your student account information, but do not have any security questions set up, You can still recover your own account if you have access to your personal e-mail account you provided San Juan College Admissions.

    1. Click the Link in the top paragraph (www.sanjuancollege.edu/student-password-reset)
    2. Enter Your Username
    3. Click I am not a Robot and answer the question
    4. Click Submit
    5. Check Your Personal (non-SJC) E-mail—An e-mail with a temporary password has been sent to your e-mail address. This password is only good for 30 minutes before it expires.
    6. Reset your password.

  • Recovering Student Password

    Recovering Student Password

    If you have forgotten your password or if your password has expired you can now recover your own password by following the steps below.

    You Must Know Your Security Questions and Answers*

    1. Click Reset Password (Unable to Use Old Password)
    2. Enter your Username
    3. Click I am not a Robot and answer the question
    4. Click Next
    5. Answer your Security Questions
    6. Click Next
    7. Enter your new password in the “New Password” field
    8. Enter your new password again in the “Confirm Answer “ field.
    9. Click Finish (Password is now reset)

    Steps To Set Up Your Security Questions

    *NOTE: You Must Know Your Current SJC Student Password*

    1. Click IT Help (SJC Password Reset) at the bottom of the SJC Homepage
    2. Choose Password Reset or Recovery.
    3. Click Set Up Security Questions.
    4. Sign in with your student Username and Password.
    5. Select three questions from the drop downs.
    6. Type the answer into the “Answer” field.
    7. Click Next then Finish.

    MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER YOUR SECURITY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BECAUSE THIS INFORMATION CANNOT BE RECOVERED!

  • Unlocking Student Account

    If your student account has been locked out due to too many failed attempts, you can now unlock your own account by following the steps below.

    *You Must Know Your Security Questions and  Answers*

    1. Click Unlock Account
    2. Enter your Username
    3. Click I am not a Robot and answer the question
    4. Click Next
    5. Answer your Security Questions
    6. Click Next
    7. Click Finish (Account is Now Unlocked)

  • Canvas Mobile App Information

    Canvas by Instructure app is available on iPad/iPhone and Android platforms and lets you:

    • View your Canvas activity stream
    • Stay on top of your to do items
    • View your course schedule and syllabus
    • Read and participate in course discussions
    • Turn in homework assignments
    • Upload files, videos, and audio recordings
    • Read, create, and reply to inbox messages
    • Study and navigate course pages
    • View grades for your courses and individual assignments
    • View submissions and participate in comment discussions with your instructor
    • Access and participate in Canvas groups
  • I can’t see content (modules, pages, assignments, discussions, or quizzes) in my course.

    Contact your instructor, as those items may not have been published.

  • I can’t see my courses on the dashboard.
    • Ensure that you are in dashboard view by clicking the gear at the top right of the dashboard window. Select the “Course Cards” option. Only currently active courses are displayed by default.
    • If you are not seeing an active course (the course has already started), click on the Courses link in the blue global navigation pane on the left side of the screen. Then click the “All Courses” link. Active courses are at the top of the list, followed by past enrollments and then future enrollments. Any course listed under future enrollments has not started yet. The stars to the left of each course name control what appears on the dashboard. Gold stars are on the dashboard and white stars are not on the dashboard. Click a star to toggle between options.
    • If your courses has started and is grayed out on the courses list, your instructor has not yet published it. Please contact your instructor to find out when it will be published.
    • If your course does not appear in any of the lists, please put in a help desk ticket at sanjuancollege.edu/itc.
  • My assignment won’t upload, the cursor just spins.

    Be sure that you are using Chrome, Safari, or Firefox as your browser. We have found that Internet Explorer and Edge do not consistently allow assignment uploads.

  • When I try to log into Canvas I get an “Invalid Username or Password” error.
    • Canvas accounts are created when you register for classes for the first time. If you have not registered for classes since 2013, your account will be created after you register.
    • If you are a dual credit student, your account will be created when you are accepted to San Juan College.
    • If you have had access to Canvas in the past, confirm that you are using the correct username and password. Passwords can be reset at: sanjuancollege.edu/reset. You should set your security questions, if you have not already done that so that you are able to reset your password in the future.
    • If you have confirmed your username and reset your password and are still unable to login, please create a ticket at sanjuancollege.edu/itc.
