San Juan College offers many benefits from health care, life insurance, and retirement plans, to educational tuition waivers and fitness benefits. Below is a brief description for prospective employees to gain an understanding of the benefits offered dependent on employment status. All benefits are contingent on administrative policies, provider agreements and state legislation. More detailed information and instructions for enrollment will be provided upon employment, at new employee orientation .
The employee has the option of choosing coverage from Cigna Core Plan or Cigna High Deductible Health Plan which is paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA); both plans share the same national network . There is also mental health/substance abuse care provided. Cigna provides a prescription drug program with tiered coverage levels for generic and brand name medications and convenient home delivery by mail order.
Comprehensive coverage is provided by Delta Dental. Diagnostic and preventive services are paid 100% by the plan with no deductible. Basic services are paid 80/20 ($50 deductible); and major services are paid 50/50 (deductible applies). Orthodontic services allow up to $1500 maximum lifetime benefit.
Coverage is provided by Vision Service Plan and includes routine eye exams (once per year), lenses (once per year), and frames (once every 2 years). Laser vision correction discounts are also available. VSP Doctor Directory.
Flexible Spending Account
The Flexible Spending Account offers you a convenient way to pay for medical and dependent care expenses while you save on your taxes. There are two types of accounts: medical reimbursement and dependent care reimbursement. You may elect to contribute a portion of your before-tax income each pay period to either or both of the accounts. This money— free of taxes—is used to reimburse you for eligible unreimbursed expenses incurred by you and your eligible family members during the year. Eligible expenses includes healthcare copay,
co-insurance, deductible and out of pocket expenses.
Health Savings Account
The Health Savings Account is a benefit which can only be offered when paired with the Cigna High Deductible Health Plan per IRS regulations. The HSA provides coverage for current health care expenses with the option to save for the future. San Juan College will contribute $50 a month to the employee’s HSA. Employees also have the option to contribute to their HSA on a pre-tax basis. Upon reaching $2,000 in an HSA certain investment options become available.
Mutual of Omaha offers Basic Term Life package ($50,000 of term life coverage, accidental death and dismemberment, and short-term and long-term disability coverage). Basic Life and Disability is paid 100% by SJC. Supplemental term life coverage is available in the amount of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 times the employee’s annual earnings. Supplemental coverage is optional and paid 100% by the employee.
The Educational Retirement Board (ERB) is a statutory entity responsible for administering the New Mexico Educational Retirement Act (ERA) to provide secure retirement benefits to teachers, administrators, and other employees within the States public school system, of higher learning, and educational agencies.
The ERB provides a defined benefit retirement plan funded by contributions from both employees and employers. Membership in the ERB plan is a condition of employment for employees who work more than 10 hours per week or teach more than 3 credit hours per semester. Learn more
For employees with annual wages of :
- Over $20,000, the employer share is 13.9% of reportable compensation and the employee share is 10.7%.
- Less than $20,000, the employer share is 13.9% of reportable compensation and the employee share is 7.9%.
- Rates effective 7/1/14 to 6/30/16.
Alternate Retirement Plan
Faculty and selected professional staff have the choice of a state retirement plan or an alternative
retirement plan (ARP) administered by TIAA-CREF.
Tuition is waived for up to 4 credit hours each semester with San Juan College or New Mexico Highlands University. A free membership is also available to the Health and Human Performance Center. A qualified family member 16 to 26 years of age may have tuition waived for up to 4 credit hours each semester and a free membership is also available to the Human Performance Center. A single-family member may utilize both waivers or two different family members may utilize a waiver each.
Employee Wellness Incentive
Regular full time and part time employees may use 30 minutes a day up to three times a week, not to exceed a total of 90 minutes, for a fitness activity at the HHPC (Health and Human Performance Center) or elsewhere on campus. This time must be used in conjunction with the employee’s regular lunch hour upon prior arrangements with the immediate supervisor. No more than 30 minutes per day can be added to a lunch hour for this purpose. This time can only be used for a fitness activity and cannot be used to extend or add to breaks or sick/annual leave time.
Employee Assistance Program
Provides employees and their families with up to 4 free, confidential, face to face counseling sessions per event. Helps with anger management, drug/alcohol abuse, stress, depression, anxiety, family and marital issues.
Employees have full access to the San Juan College Library which includes; Books, Periodicals, DVDs, and CDs
- 10% off of purchases made from Mary’s Kitchen
- 10% off of Rentals from the HHPC
- 40% off of select items from the Bookstore
- Employees receive a free ticket for San Juan College events held in the Henderson Fine Arts building or the Little Theater. A guest of the employee may also receive a discounted ticket.
- Employees receive discounted tickets for all Touring Shows. A guest of the employee may also receive a discounted ticket.
- Employees receive a free gym membership at the HHPC. One qualified dependent can also receive a free gym membership.
