Civil Rights and Social Justice Film Festival

Join us for a great line up of films and video clips devoted to Civil Rights in honor of One Book/One Community’s selection March, by Congressman John Lewis.
11:30: Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot: tells the story of a courageous group of students and teachers who, along with other activists, fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South.
12:15: Bullied: a documentary film that chronicles one student’s ordeal at the hands of anti-gay bullies and offers an inspiring message of hope to those fighting harassment today.
1:00 Modern Day Warriors: covers the rise of the Native American rights and tribal sovereignty movement from the 1960’s to present day.
1:20: Standing Rock Resistance and our Fight for Our Indigenous Rights: Tribal attorney and Couchiching First Nation citizen Tara Houska chronicles the history of attempts by government and industry to eradicate the legitimacy of indigenous peoples’ land and culture, including the months-long standoff at Standing Rock which rallied thousands around the world.
1:30 Mighty Times: The Children’s March: tells the heroic story of the young people in Birmingham, Alabama, who brought segregation to its knees.
