Exploring the Shadows
an oil painting exhibit by Al Weber
May 18 through June 23, 2003
Sunday, May 18, 2-4 pm
Farmington artist Albert Weber will display his oil paintings in a show he has entitled “Exploring the Shadows” at the Henderson Fine Arts Center Art Gallery from May 18 to June 23. The opening reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 18.
In 2000 Weber had a painting accepted in the top 100 tour for the Arts for Parks competition and in 2001 a painting was in the top 200 of the Arts for Parks.
Now in his 70s, Weber has been painting for many years. “The paintings I create reflect over half a century of thoroughly enjoying the mountains of southwest Colorado and its people,” he says. “Both are so varied that there is no shortage of ideas or subjects. So, with the music of Stravinsky, Count Basie, maybe Ravel teasing my ears, I face a blank canvas with pleasure, knowing that some of those land forms and people, or variations of them, will appear.”
He often takes his canvas and paints into the mountains to paint onsite, often at 8,000 feet elevation and higher. “Oh, hell, let’s face it,” he says. “I just like to be in the mountains.”
