San Juan College volunteers and the Dental Hygiene Program will join San Juan County and other local businesses and organizations to assist with New Mexico Mission of Mercy, a program of the New Mexico Dental Foundation.
Over the two-day event, dentists and dental professionals provide free dental services to area adults and children who cannot afford care. Recipients wait in line, and care is provided on a first-come-first-served basis to as many as can be seen in two days. Along with dental professionals, the community-supported event is staffed by compassionate volunteers and funded entirely through grants and donations.
While patients will be treated over two days, September 13 and 14, community volunteers are needed to assist with the event September 12 – 15 to prepare for and assist during the event, as well as to help disassemble the clinic.
NM MOM San Juan County, slated for September 13-14, follows two successful events held in Albuquerque in 2010, and in Las Cruces in 2012. Combined, 3,722 patients were helped by 3,200 volunteers, and more than $2.2 million in free dental care was donated. Learn more or sign up to volunteer at www.nmdentalfoundation.org. For those who do not have computer access, the Farmington Library has computers available and can assist you with online registration.
