Next Steps for Online Students

Welcome to San Juan College! Are you interested in taking online courses at
San Juan College?

Below are steps to follow as you get started at San Juan College. Feel free to contact the onlineadvisor@sanjuancollege.edu, or any of the specific offices listed below, if you have any questions or concerns.

  1. Apply to San Juan College
    • Online | Application is free. Apply at http://www.sanjuancollege.edu/apply
    • Paper | $10.00 Application Fee. Download the printable form.

  2. File for Financial Aid
  3. Contact the Financial Aid office

  4. Submit High School/GED and College Transcript(s)
  5. Submit a Request for Official Transcript from an external Institution to your High School, GED Agency, or other college(s).

  6. Complete New Student Orientation
  7. Email orientation@sanjuancollege.edu your online program advisor to initiate your NSO.

  8. Set up your SJC Student e-mail account
  9. All San Juan College students must activate and use their student email accounts. This is the method by which the college will communicate important information to you.

    Visit MySJC Portal for information about your email account.

  10. Do you need to take the Accuplacer?
  11. For information about the Accuplacer go to http://www.sanjuancollege.edu/accuplacer.

    If you have attended college, you may not need to take the Accuplacer. Check with your online program director or advisor at Connect to Online Advising.

    To make arrangements to take the Accuplacer, contact:

    All other students, ACC Online Advisor, distanceaccuplacer@sanjuancollege.edu

    If you are faxing Accuplacer scores from another school, have scores faxed to (505)566-4408.

  12. Develop your course plan
  13. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Academic Catalog and Course Listing

    NOTE: Online classes fill up in the first few weeks of registration, so register early.

    Contact your online advisor for your pre-selection or specialty program:

    If you are not in a pre-selection or specialty program, you will work with the online ACC advisor at onlineadvisor@sanjuancollege.edu.

    During peak advising times, please allow 5 business days for an e-mail response.

    To expidite your online advising needs, please include:

    1. Full name,
    2. Major at SJC,
    3. Any pre-planned courses you are considering,
    4. Your student status (full-time or part-time),
    5. And any questions you may have.
  14. Using WebAdvisor to Register for Classes & Pay Tuition
  15. WebAdvisor is your home for your student profile. You can access your financial information, financial aid status, register for class, and view your grades.

    Once you finish working with your online advisor, you may register online. Please note registration dates, since they vary for online, new, and returning students.

    Other Payment Options

    • Set up payments online through NelNet e cashier. There is a $25 NelNet fee for this service. You must know your SJC Student ID # to make a payment or set up a payment plan through NelNet.
    • Visit the Business Office in person or call (505)566-3396.
  16. Purchase Books and Materials
  17. Visit the SJC Book Store online at http://bookstore.sanjuancollege.edu. Please have your course schedule on hand for reference.

  18. Complete Course Orientation
  19. Contact your instructor(s) for more information on course orientation.

    You can obtain your instructor's email address by checking your class schedule. SJC faculty e-mail is usually last name and first initial @sanjuancollege.edu.

  20. Get Started
  21. Log into your online courses at https://canvas.sanjuancollege.edu/login.
    Note: Online courses are not available until the first day of class.

    If you are unable to log into your online class, contact the SJC Help Desk by emailing otshelpdesk@sanjuancollege.edu, submitting a SNOW ticket, or by calling (505)566-3266.
