Distinguished Teaching Chair Project Descriptions

NATIVE AMERICAN STUDIES

The Native American Studies Distinguished Teaching Chair Project is open to all full-time faculty. The activities of the chair must directly address the history, culture, language, or governance of Tribes within the Four Corners area or student success of Native American students. The proposal may address but is not limited to curriculum issues involving programs of economic development, natural resources management, community development and environmental sciences. This project is funded through the generosity of BHP Billiton in honor of BHP Billiton’s Native American employees.

LITERACY and MATH COMPETENCY

This chair is established to recognize and promote teaching excellence focused on literacy and mathematics issues: the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical computations. Instructors from the Student Success Center, Reading, English, and Mathematics disciplines would most closely fit the eligibility criteria depending on the scope of their proposal. However, one of our Developmental Learning objectives is to encourage basic skills instruction across the curriculum. To that end, we invite any college faculty active or interested in incorporating explicit reading, writing, and mathematics instruction into their content area to apply. This project is funded through the generosity of the Citizen’s Bank.
