Henderson Fine Art Gallery
Plein Aire Painters of the Four Corners
Reception: Friday, March 21, 6 to 8 p.m.
March 21, 2008 - April 10, 2008
The beauty of landscape art can be enjoyed when the Plein Aire Painters of the Four Corners exhibit comes to the San Juan College Henderson Fine Art Center Gallery, Friday, March 21, through Thursday, April 10. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The free exhibit features a group of 37 artists who share the artist spirit and often paint landscapes together on site. To be considered a Plein Air painting, the artwork must be completed on site with little touch up work done later in studio.
Ron Hubble, a self-taught New Mexico and Colorado artist, will serve as the juror for the exhibit. Born in New Mexico, Hubble was raised in the San Juan Basin in the Four Corners region. Currently Hubble paints in at least three distinct styles.
His imaginary work has a dreamlike quality with a muted and limited palette of colors and very soft edges. When working directly from nature on location, his works are painterly, energetic and colorful. The studio work, which is interpreted from the artist’s own photographs, is slightly tighter but still infused with passion and energy. He owned a studio in Taos and Santa Fe before retiring 2003.
Hubble will award two possible purchase awards, as well as a best of show and first and second place certificates.
The Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday,
from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
