“Your Right To Know”
October 27th, 2009
In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics of 1998 the San Juan College Department of Public Safety is giving notice of recurring motor vehicle break-ins on the campus. On October 26th, 2009 two vehicles were broken into, one vehicle was located at the parking lot of the Health and Human Performance Center and the other at the parking lot of the Henderson Fine Arts. Both vehicles had their windows broken and items were removed from areas of plain sight. Statistically the number of break-ins will continue to rise over the next two months so the Department of Public Safety recommends the following safety tips to lessen the chance of your vehicle being broken into:
- When you park your car, always be sure to take valuables with you or lock them in the trunk of the car. Never leave electronics or valuables in sight.
- Always lock your car after entering it or exiting it.
- If on campus after or near dark, park in well-lit, well-traveled areas of the campus.
- If you are parked near other vehicles, pay attention to those with occupants.
Following these recommendations will greatly decrease your chances of being the target of a crime, if you have any questions please contact the Department of Public Safety at 505-566-3263 or 505-215-3091.
